Jim Colucci was named president in and chief operating officer of Gurkha Cigars in 2019 and oversees the company’s operations, planning, marketing, sales and pricing. Since 2013 he has also been the president and CEO of Sindicato Cigar Group and holds the same responsibilities.
Colucci is a well-respected cigar industry veteran with more than 40 years experience. He is also a veteran who served in the U.S. Marine Corps for four years, with a tour duty in Vietnam. He began his career with General Foods Corporation and held several positions in sales management. In 1974 he joined Consolidated Cigar Corporation as Assistant Regional Sales Manager, and in 1978 was promoted to Western Regional Sales Manager and moved with his family to Southern California.
In 1985 Colucci became Vice President of sales and marketing and in 1988 he was promoted to Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. In 1998, Colucci was a member of the management group that bought Consolidated Cigar, which became a successful LBO. In 2000 the company now owned by Seita, the former French tobacco monopoly, merged with Tabacalera SA, the former Spanish tobacco monopoly which owned Havatampa, Inc. to become Altadis USA the largest cigar company in the U.S. and a division of Altadis SA the largest cigar company in the world. In November 2007 Jim was promoted to the position as Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing of Altadis U.S.A., a position he held until his retirement from the company in 2011.
Colucci has received several accolades and awards throughout his career. He was named an Associate Dean of NCWA in 1988, received the IACTD Milton Rothenberg Award in 1992 and also that year was named Cigar Man of the Year by the New York State Association. In 1997, he and his wife, Linda, were honored by Catholic Charities USA with the 1997 Caritas Award. In 1998 the Southern Association of Wholesale Distributors named Colucci the Tobacco Representative of the Year. In 2001, the California Distributors Association named him Giant of the Industry. The Florida Tobacco and Candy Association named him the 2002 Recipient of the Bear Award at their Annual Meeting. Also in 2002, Jim was the recipient of The American Jewish Committee’s National Human Relations Award. In 2005, Jim was honored once again by the Southern Association of Wholesale Distributors with the Career Achievement Award. Jim chaired the Montecristo Cup Golf Tournament. In addition, Jim was the Founder and Director of the World of Montecristo Relief Organization. He was also a Board member of the SAWD and was a member of the Board of Directors of the AWMA. Jim was on the Board of the International Premium Cigar and Pipe Retailers Association.
Jim is also on the Board of the Mission Medical Clinic in Delray Beach, Florida. He was chairman of the Swing for Kids Golf Classic, a PGA Pro-Am golf event that supports the Mission Medical Clinic. The clinic provides medical and dental care for low-income people with no healthcare. Colucci and Linda, have been volunteers since 1996 in support of this important charity.
Colucci holds a BBA and MBA for Iona and lives in Boca Raton, FL with his wife.
