2021 A Year in Review

TAMARAC, FL – While 2020 rocked our world, 2021 brought a bit more stability in our routines as we adapted to the ongoing pandemic. Here are a few highlights of a year in review:

In the beginning of the year we received a new president into office in the US, while the Delta Variant of COVID-19 raised more concerns from the year before. Gurkha’s resealable sampler baggies hit new heights in terms of sales volume as gradually the country thawed out from the winter. The spring reminded us of our childhood dreams of traveling to space as Elon Musk launched Space X, the first operational spaceflight by a private company. Over the summer, a Surfside, FL 12-story building collapse killed 98 residents raising awareness and importance of the already existent 40 year building recertification process.

In July, the Cigar industry returned to it’s annual trade show, the PCA after the first missed year since it’s inception in 1933 as the RTDA. Gurkha introduced The Revenant and new sampler bags. The Summer Olympics also returned uniting the world from Tokyo and raised more mental health awareness than ever before.

As children returned to school, American Troops were withdrawn from Afghanistan after a two-decade war against terrorism. The FDA also approved the COVID-19 vaccines, making the vaccine more popular among previous skeptics and Gurkha Cigars delivered the Revenant to stores across the country.

October was a somber month at home when Gurkha laid to rest our beloved Cristina Santana who broke barriers across the world opening up international and domestic markets alike. Numerous people poured out offerings of condolences across the world. A friend who became family to most, Cristina’s absence is deeply missed.

In November, the WHO announced the emergence of Omicron, our newest COVID-19 threat, which reminded us that we’re still in the midst of the pandemic. And wrapping up the year, Gurkha surpassed it’s greatest sales volume so far proving to emerge through the pandemic stronger than ever.

Moving forward into the new year, Gurkha Cigars would like announce the memory of Cristina Santana to live on. Cristina had previously received the Salesperson of the Year Award and Gurkha Cigars is proud to present the renaming of the trophy in her honor. This year and every year moving forward, Gurkha will be presenting the Cristina Santana Award and the very first recipient of this award is Steve Cook. Congratulations on your achievement through hard work and dedication to the craft, Steve. Gurkha Cigars is excited to see what the future holds in store for 2022.
